Two Cased Visor Caps and Photograph Group of Japanese Imperial Army Lieutenant General Yoshio Shinozuka

From 1924 to 1927 Yoshio Shinozuka served as the Military Attaché to Austria & Hungary and thereafter rose through Imperial Army positions to include assignment to the 3rd Imperial Guards Regiment; Commanding Officer 1st Infantry Regiment; Instructor at the Army Infantry School; Commanding Officer 1st Imperial Guards Brigade; General Officer Commanding 10th Division; General Officer Commanding 1st Army [China]; Commandant of the Military Academy; and, from 1941 to 1942, as a Member of the Supreme War Council. He retired in 1942 and he committed suicide in September of 1945. The group is comprised of two of General Shinozuka’s visor caps in their carrying case, together with a group of approximately 155 photographs of varying sizes which depict both civilian and military scenes. Many of the photographs bear handwritten notations in kanji. The two visor caps are both constructed of a fine olive green ribbed wool, with red wool cap band and piping. One cap show significant age damage to the surface of the visor and wear to the interior lining. Both caps have the owner’s name embroidered on the lining. While both caps exhibit use and age, both caps have a fine shape and make a very good appearance. The caps are contained within their hard, cloth covered, carrying case which bears the initials of “Y.S.”.
